| Challenge: | As part of our administrative system duties for Bidlink, we needed to find a cost effective way to perform backups and service monitoring. | |
| Solution: |
Using Perl, the glue that holds the internet together, we wrote two applications: a service monitoring daemon which operates on the application level (OSI layer 7), and an automated, off-site backup system which uses the secure ssh protocol.
